The Kern County Republican Party is once again holding its annual Lincoln Day Essay Contest!
First, second, and third-place winners will be presented with a cash prize of $1500, $1000, or $750 at the annual Kern County Lincoln Day Dinner on April 10th, 2025, in Bakersfield. The first-place winner will read their essay from the podium.
Rules of Entry:
-Contest is open to high school seniors only
-All applications and essays must be received by 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 28th
-Essays must be no longer than 350 words
Essay Guidelines:
Pick a current issue that has either a local or national impact and explain how Abraham Lincoln would deal with the issue if he were president today. Explain
why, supporting your reasoning with evidence based on Lincoln’s (such as):
● political and personal philosophy
● actions, writings, beliefs, and reasoning
● management and decision-making styles
● demonstrated understanding of the purpose, use and
limits of government in America as established by the
founders
